Michael Dale Lackore, 48, of Yerington, NV passed away Friday April 22, 2011 from pulmonary emboli at St. Mary's Hospital in Reno, NV.

Mike was born and raised in San Luis Obispo, California.  He attended Cal Poly where he met and married the love of his life, Lisa.

A career opportunity led them to Nevada where Mike fulfilled his lifelong desire to be a fireman. He was a fireman for  DZHC in Hawthorne, NV for 2 years.  He was then offered the opportunity to work as a fireman for the City of Reno.  His best friend and colleague Roger described him best....."Mike worked like a horse. Mike was the first one to the patient, gurney, door, hose, mop, store....it didn't matter. He worked hard and never showed weakness." We were and are so incredibly proud of his accomplishments.

Although Mike called himself a Fireman, his first "career" was that of a Milkman. At the young age of 14, Mike received a special permit to drive and took over the family milk delivery business. He ran his routes with dedication, rarely missing a day. In addition, he was always accompanied by his trusty canine companions, Checkers and Keela. Mike and Keela made friends all over San Luis County. Keela even knew the route so well that he could take Beth, Mike's mother, to every stop when she filled in for Mike.  Mike "retired" from his first career in June of 1984.

Educationally, Mike graduated from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in 1994 with a degree in Ag Business. In addition, Mike completed a degree in Fire Science from Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria, California.

Mike was also a member of the Caballeros de San Luis Obispo for 29 years. He was a member of Los Buzzardos camp and had been fondly nicknamed "Badger" early on. In 1997, Mike proudly came home from the annual trail ride with the “All-Around Cowboy” buckle. He never missed a ride until 2010.

Mike was the loving father of two children, Melissa and Cole.  As a family, Mike and Lisa shared a passion for horses and built a home and ranch from the ground up. They started with a bare piece of land, living in a cold travel trailer so they could be there everyday to work on their ranch. And what is a ranch without an animal or two? Well, there was nary an animal or stray that could be ignored by Mike and this resulted in a menagerie of 11 horses, 1 burro (the neighborhood rooster), 5 dogs and 3 cats.

One of Mike's greatest pleasures was enjoying the company of friends and family. He loved nothing more than to hear his kids running through the house giggling and playing with each other, causing chaos or creating messes. He truly had the utmost patience when it came to his kids. As his wife, I learned so much from him on how to be a good parent. His words of wisdom were always wise beyond his years.

Mike is survived by his wife Lisa, children Melissa and Cole, parents Dale and Beth, a sister Kim, and a large number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mike will be forever missed and never forgotten.

In remembrance: Don't be sad for what is.  Be glad for what was.
